Westerville Symphony puts wine and music together

On November 6, the Westerville Symphony presented an unusual evening as part of its continuing commitment to bring the finest classical music and music appreciation to the area.

The symphony's event was called ‘Pairings: An Evening of Wine and Music’, and took place at The Medallion Club.

People are familiar with seeing wine paired with cheese, chocolate, and even art. However, Peter Stafford Wilson, the Westerville Symphony's Music Director, took the idea even further, pairing wine with delicious hors d'oeuvres prepared by The Medallion Club's Chef Patrick Kennedy, and with specially selected pieces of classical music.

Each course was explained by sommelier Jerry Siegel, who discussed the ways in which the flavors in the wines paired with the food. At the same time, Maestro Wilson guided the orchestra through suitable selections to complete the occasion. In one case, the symphony played Dvorak's ‘Serenade for Wind Instruments’, as diners enjoyed their meal. Maestro Wilson also explained each movement of the symphony, as well as Antonin Dvorak's background and history.

A lottery and silent auction were also part of the evening's festivities, with money raised going to support the symphony.

The orchestra might be able to increase its fundraising efforts by devising Brochures describing this event, as well as future performances, and Mailing them to area residents.
