Westerville is considering consolidating operations, and is inviting the public to an open house to tour both the current facilities and the new location.
The city is thinking of consolidating the police and the courts in order to improve the safety of the public. The Westerville Division of Police (WDP) is inviting residents to take a peek behind the scenes of the police headquarters, which is now 30 years old. After that, visitors will take a look at the Detectives’ Bureau.
The proposed location of the new, combined facility is an already-existing office building located at 229 Huber Village Boulevard. Once it is enlarged and renovated, the new building will house all of the WPD’s bureaus, including Emergency Communications (911), Investigations, and the Mayor’s Court. Currently, these operations are located in three different buildings on State Street.
Renovating the building and moving in the WPD would help solve the problem of finding enough space to house all operations in one place without having to rent additional locations. It is estimated that construction would cost about $15m, which would be raised through a 20-year, voter-approved bond issue.
The tour of the current facilities is set for 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on September 26; WPD headquarters is at 29 South State Street. The tour of the new facility will take place from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on October 2. Flyer printing can be used to provide handouts for events like this.
