Westerville lends a hand for Mothers Day

A special event for special mothers is coming up in Westerville.

Seeds of Caring, together with Moms2B, is organizing an event to help mothers in need. During the upcoming in-person get-together, families and children will create “care kits” as gifts for those women associated with the Moms2B program.

Ohio State University established Moms2B in 2010, with the goals of reducing infant mortality, reducing the number of infants with low birth weights, helping women deliver healthy babies, improving the health of members of communities traditionally at risk, and eliminating disparities due to economic or racial differences.

Seeds of Caring creates opportunities for children to learn the concepts of service to others, community building, and social action by participating in special events such as this.

The care kits will be put together by children from ages 2 through 12, who must be accompanied by adult caregivers. Siblings outside of the noted age range are welcome to attend as well, although they may not get as much out of it.

In order to meet health protocols, participants will be socially distanced, and are asked to bring their own masks, which will be worn during the entire activity, and a blanket they can sit on. Supplies that have been pre-bagged will be made available to each family. Flyer printing can be used to create instructions for participants attending events like this.

The event is set for this Saturday, May 1, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Alum Creek Park North Shelter in Westerville.
