Westerville agency honored

A division of Westerville's government was recently honored for its innovations and achievements.

The Ohio Municipal Electric Association (OMEA) and American Municipal Power (AMP) recently honored the City of Westerville Electric Division (WED) for its achievements, and its excellent performance in its industry segment for the past year. WED was given three awards, as well as a commendation and an honorable mention, at the 2019 AMP/OMEA Conference.

WED received the AMP Innovation Award for its Nest Rush Hour Rewards Program. Residents enrolled in the program allow Nest to make short-term, minor adjustments to the temperatures of their homes remotely. The adjustments are designed to reduce the use of power during the hours of peak consumption, which can keep electric rates low throughout Westerville.

The organization also received the AMP System Sustainability Award, which was given for its PowerUp Commercial EVSE Rebate Program. The effort seeks to expand the infrastructure for public EV charging by offering rebates to WED business customers who install charging stations for electric vehicles.

WED also won the AMP Public Power Promotion Award, given for The People Behind the Power, an educational video about the Westerville Electric Division.

WED received an AMP System Improvement Honorable Mention for the Circuit 41 System Improvement Project, that installed a special new cable in a heavily forested area to decrease outages in that area. Finally, WED also received a commendation from AMP for its safety record. Print shops can help create materials listing accomplishments like this for mail inserts.
