Westerville seniors appear to be solidly behind the idea of renewing the city’s PROS (Parks, Recreation and Open Space) tax, which comes up for a vote November 4. A new Senior Center will be added to the Community Center if the measure passes.
At present, the Westerville Senior Center is housed in what once was a water treatment facility. The new center would have a larger walking track, a warm water pool that could be used for therapy, and other additional amenities.
Westerville seniors say they are enthusiastic in supporting a move to a new building. One member of the Senior Center’s Advisory Board, Lloyd Kuschner, said all the seniors he knows favor the idea completely, and that the new facility is badly needed. He adds that board members and seniors themselves hope to at least double the membership, but cannot do so if they remain in the present space. Kuschner described the current center as “pretty crowded”, which would make the center unable to admit more members.
Another member of the board, Anita Ebbert, teaches seniors how to line dance. She notes that the practice floor slopes, and is not an ideal place for classes to practice.
Advisory board members could work with a flyer printing company to create mailers to city residents, asking them to support the new center.
