New roadway open, but needs tweaks

Gemini Place, a roadway extending Gemini from Orion Place to Worthington Road, is now open just to the north of Westerville, according to an article in This Week Community News.

The $10m project, which was headed up by the Ohio Department of Transportation, was designed to relieve some of the congestion on Polaris Parkway, as well as making it easier for people to access the new IKEA store when it goes in. However, ODOT has discovered the new road needs some tweaks; specifically, it is reworking the intersection.

Nancy Burton, speaking on behalf of ODOT, said the agency could not make changes the first day. Instead, they had to analyze traffic patterns through several rush hours, and would begin making adjustments on the second and third days. She noted that even if the traffic is “horrible” ODOT will not make changes that first day because it does not have enough information.

In addition, some drivers will find the experience so off-putting they will not take that route again, further changing traffic patterns. However, by the time the road has been in use for a couple of days, ODOT can start to pinpoint and correct problems.

Tweaking intersections usually includes taking steps like adding Signs or changing the stop light sequences.

Agencies like these can benefit by working with flyer printing companies, which can Print informative materials about road systems for area-wide mailings.
