After 28 years as director of the Westerville Public Library, Don Barlow retired at the end of May. His successor, Erin Francoeur will officially take over on June 12, 2017, according to an article in This Week Community News. Francoeur has over nine years professional library experience, and is coming to Westerville from Redding, California, where she worked in the Shasta Public Libraries.
Francoeur described the Westerville library as “lively” and “progressive,” with an excellent staff, and a lot of exciting and interesting programs. She noted Westerville's library is embracing changes to the way libraries operate, and taking advantage of new technology, which puts it at the forefront of library service. However, the biggest positive for her might be returning to the Midwest where she has family in Illinois and Indiana as well as Ohio.
The hiring process was spearheaded by Jack Shinnock, who is the library's board of trustee's secretary. He insisted it wouldn't be possible to truly replace Barlow, and wanted to find someone capable of creating a legacy of their own. He believes they have found that person in Francoeur.
A reception for Francoeur is slated for June 15, 2017, from 6 pm to 8 pm. Residents are welcome to come and talk to her about her vision for the library.
