Temperatures are expected to rise this weekend and parts of Ohio can expect to experience temperatures as high as 112°F.
The National Weather Service put out an official heatwave warning. The highest temperatures are expected for early Saturday and the government agency believes that people will suffer from heat illnesses if precautions are not taken. Counties such as Ashland, Marion, Medina and Stark will feel the most extreme effects of the heatwave, but those in Mentor are advised to take precautions as well.
Thunderstorms expected for Sunday may relieve some of the stress felt by the heatwave. The Red Cross has put out a recommendation for people to check on their elderly neighbors as well as friends and family who require extra care. Power outages are a possibility as well.
People in the affected areas are reminded to make sure that their air conditioner units are functioning. Those without reliable air conditioners are advised to ride out the hottest hours of the days in the community centers or local libraries, where they can swim or make use of the Stationery printers until it becomes cool again.
Ohio residents are also advised to keep their pets and children safe from the heat. Heads of households should make sure that everyone is properly hydrated and wearing loose clothing with light colors, and should avoid going outside in the afternoon.
