Fairport Harbor Village, a popular port for people from Mentor who want to go out onto Lake Erie, is the subject of a potential project that hopes to convince boaters to dock there and take a tour of the local community.
The project coordinators already have a conceptual design. It shows that they wish to put up a transient marina with 50 slips. Graphic designs are used regularly to illustrate ideas and see how feasible they are.
The marina will be designed and serviced in a manner that will attract boaters to visit Fairport. Many of those boaters will choose to stay for a week or two in nearby lodgings. This will keep the new marina from competing with the county’s other marinas designed to attract long-term stayers.
The project is estimated to cost $9m. The amenities that it will have include a fueling dock, a station for cleaning fish, and a building with restrooms and showers. The plan also shows that the developers intend to expand the size of the parking lot so that it can accommodate more boat trailers and vehicles. Visiting boaters will be able to rent golf cars and bicycles that they can use to tour the community.
The feasibility study and market analysis for this project were carried out by MSA Professional Services at the request of the County Port and Economic Development Authority.
