Charity runners can come together to raise money for the fifth installment of the annual McKinley 5k Run in Willoughby this month.
Participants will be running through the city’s North End. According to the director of McKinley’s Community Outreach Center, the race begins and ends at 1200 Lost Nation Road. All of the money made from the event will go directly to the Community Outreach Center.
The McKinley Community Center was established in 2013. When asked about the upcoming race, Beth Morgan, the Outreach Center’s director, stated:
“We have a taxable distribution. That’s all the items that food Stamps does not cover like basic needs- toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper…”
In 2018, more than 800 families visited the Outreach Center during the taxable distribution day. A total of 66,000lb of food was distributed from McKinley’s pantry over the course of that year.
The race starts at 8:30 am on September 21st. Participants, particularly those with a fondness for Promotional Products, are encouraged to sign up in advance so that they can get a free race T-shirt. People can still sign up on the day of the race at 7:30 a.m.
The race will be timed and managed by Greater Cleveland XC and Second Sole from Mentor. The course is said to be fun and flat. Refreshments will be available for the runners right after the event.
