A local artist is going to be teaching Mentor residents how to recreate a painting by a famous name in early August.
Van Gogh’s Irises is both the name of the piece and the class. Vincent Van Gogh was a painter born in the Netherlands who never really got the chance to see his work take off, as his work found fame after his death. This particular picture was created while Van Gogh was a resident in an asylum in the French town of Saint-Rémy.
Rachel Sandor will serve as the instructor, helping attendees learn the necessary techniques to make their own piece of artwork. Her company, The Dirty Palette, was started in 2022, but Sandor started working as an art instructor long before that. Her aim with starting the business was to focus more on the fun aspect of art, creating a more relaxed environment for participants of all skill levels.
Gunny’s Hall will be serving as the venue. Guests are asked to bring something for the class to enjoy in their potluck, but only if that is something they can do comfortably. The finished piece will measure 12”x16”.
On The Dirty Palette website, tickets are available for $35. The lesson will kick off at 2:30 pm and last for about two hours on Sunday, August 6. Flyer printing is a common promotion technique for creative experiences such as this.
