Kettering ready to rock

A concert is coming up soon that could shake up not only Kettering, but the entire Dayton area.

As part of the $5 Concert Series, Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley is presenting That Arena Rock Show, for one night only. That Arena Rock Show is a tribute not to a single band, but to an entire genre of music – arena rock.

In the 1970s and 1980s, thousands of fans would pack arenas—often football or baseball stadiums—to listen to their favorite rock and heavy metal bands, and have their ears blasted by walls of speakers. The shows often featured massive pyrotechnic displays, as well as long-haired frontmen who regularly destroyed their instruments while the crowds cheered.

The bands that dominated the arenas and the airwaves at the time included outfits like Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Poison, KISS, Whitesnake, and Van Halen. The songs from that era were sometimes described as “anthems,” as they were extensive, featuring innovative techniques. Their distinctive work is still heard on classic rock stations, where fans rock out to “Sweet Child o’ Mine” and “Walk This Way.”

That Arena Rock Show is set for June 9 at 9:00 pm at the Fraze Pavilion on Lincoln Park Boulevard in Kettering. When organizers set up events like this, they can use poster printing to create advertisements to post throughout the area.
