Roundabout construction spells local road closure into 2021

The previously closed portion of Jacksonburg Road is now open, and a different part of the road has closed to allow the construction of a new roundabout.

Jacksonburg Road and Ohio 73 has long been identified as one of the most troublesome intersections in Butler County. The southern leg of Jacksonburg closed last August and has been reopened, but now commuters will have to contend with the north part of Jacksonburg being closed until June 2021.

Hamilton drivers who usually use that intersection will be detoured via Wayne Madison and Howe Roads, and speed will be reduced through the work zone to 15 mph. To accommodate trucks to and from the construction site, Ohio 73 may restrict traffic.

Flyer printing services are frequently employed when a detour is likely to affect members of the local business community.

Discussion concerning this intersection, which has frequently earned a spot on the list of Ohio’s most dangerous intersections, has been ongoing for years. In 2016, the roundabout project began once ODOT-conducted safety and feasibility studies were complete. Clearing work in preparation of the roundabout construction starting in August.

If all goes as planned, according to ODOT, the $3m roundabout construction project will be completed by the end of next summer, and the intersection frequently traversed by semi-trucks should be much safer.
