The very first set of honorees was inducted in November 2019 and plans were made to introduce more every year as Veterans Day nears. Eligibility requirements are simple: be a former or current resident of Hamilton, honorably discharged from the military, and “of good moral character”.
Printing services are called upon to Print awards, certifications, or other honors suitable for framing.
Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Dan Bates said:
“I am amazed with the names that have come forward of people who had stellar careers, living in our community that we had no idea. The other piece of the recognition is what they have done in our community as a civilian since their military career.”
In 2019, the first set of veteran inductees was made up of 20 individuals. Some of those were deceased, either killed while in the service or had passed away after being discharged.
In addition to Mayor Pat Moeller and Dan Bates, the selection committee contains three veterans.
In early fall, nominations are reviewed, with notifications made to those chosen (as well as the person who put their name forward) in October. The induction will take place once again in November.
