New candy store features old favorites and exotic new ones

Hamilton now has its own downtown store devoted to candy, covering both the traditional and the unusual.

Offering a wide range of candies, Henry’s Candy Co. has recently opened at 243 High Street with Swedish Fish, fruit slices, and 20 types of gummy bears. The store also has an assortment of dark and milk chocolates, bubble gum, chewy candy, buckeyes, and toffees.

Sugar-free options are available, as are non-sugary snack mixes such as Spicy Cajun Kicker Mix and Very Berry Antioxidant Mix. Future plans include adding uniquely flavored bottled specialty sodas and widening the nostalgic-style candy choices such as Squirrel Nut Zippers, wax lips, and Bottle Caps.

Unlike the candy sold in grocery stores, the sweets at Henry’s Candy Co. can be purchased in whatever amount the customer wants, whether it is a pound or a single piece of candy.

Mia and Tony Farquis are the candy shop’s owners, and it was for their newborn son Henry, who died in 2009, that the store was named.

Henry’s Candy Co. is open Monday through Saturdays, at 10:00 am and closing at 6:00 pm. The new confectioners’ store occupies what was once the Holzberger Convenience Store storefront, and is the sort of new venture that is often boosted with the help of a vibrant poster printing campaign.
