New apartments readied and waiting over downtown ice cream shop
The Old Hughes Pharmacy Building at 302 Main St. has been undergoing renovation for about a year, and the three-story build is now ready to rent the apartments on the second and third floors.
The Hamilton structure has been at that location since the 1880s and through the Prohibition era the business there was famous for its ice cream bar. Today, the bottom floor contains the Village Parlor Ice Cream Shop, which has been open since January.
The redevelopment was handled by the Consortium for Ongoing Reinvestment Efforts (CORE), which according to its website was created in 2012.
Occupancy for the Davis apartments were anticipated to be possible in November, but delays in construction resulted in the timetable being moved back.
Commonly, companies building large apartment buildings will turn to brochure printing to entice potential residents with a goal of selling or leasing apartments before they are even finished.
A total of 10 one-bedroom apartments and two studio rooms are available for rent with prices at $775 and $1,122 a month. Gas and electric are the responsibility of the resident but water and trash removal are included in the rent.
Amenities include a washer, dryer, and ceiling fan in each apartment, and a designate parking space. Rental applications may be submitted at the CORE website.
