The Hamilton-based Great Miami Rowing Center (GMRC) will be sending several of its members to the 2022 World Rowing Coastal Championships and Beach Sprint Finals being held in Wales.
The World Rowing Coastals, as the competition is more frequently referenced, will be leaving for Barcelona in early September for a three-week training period. From there the team will moving on to Ireland to train an additional three weeks with the Irish National team, prior to taking part in the competition during the first and second weekends of October.
Customized T-Shirts, uniforms, jackets, and other attire carrying team or club names or logos are among the many personalized items printing services supply.
Unlike the Great Miami River, where GMRC does its rowing, the competition will be held in coastal waters, which according to GMRC head coach Marc Oria will present a different type of challenge for the Hamilton rowers. The difference between coastal rowing and flatwater rowing, such as takes place on the Little Miami, is substantial. While the mechanics and concepts are much the same, coastal rowing is rougher and more chaotic.
In order to make the team, interested athletes, including GMRC members, competed in mini-camps to pare down applicants to the best rowers for the coastal trials. Of the nine possible events they qualified for six teams.
