The program allows participating consumers, with the purchase of an official cup, to stroll the Main Street, Central Business District and German Village areas of Hamilton with their alcoholic beverages. Alcohol can only be carried in a designated cup in the DORA (designated outdoor refreshment area) areas.
These special DORA cups cost $1 and can be purchased at participating businesses, which will post stickers outside to identify them. A cup cannot be taken into another establishment selling DORA alcohol, although this policy may change in the future as the program undergoes refinement.
It is hoped that the outdoor refreshment program will improve business in the DORA areas and create a more festive atmosphere for patrons. Participating establishments will wish to promote the program which is operational from noon to midnight every day. A banner printing service could be useful in marking the designated DORA areas.
Jacob Stone, city communications specialist told WCPO Cincinnati:
"It's just one more thing to do in Hamilton, adding to our quality of life."
Certain restriction will be in place during special events that sell alcohol, this is due to state alcohol regulations. As an example DORA cups cannot be carried into where the Rivers Edge concert series is held. Similarly event alcohol cannot be carried into the community.
