Local park makes 2018s Great Places in America list

Residents of Hamilton who wish to visit a few ‘Great Public Places in America’ will not have far to go to see their first location; it’s right in their own home city

The American Planning Association has named Hamilton’s Marcum Park as one of America’s 2018 great public spaces. The space it occupies is in the city’s center where Mercy Hospital – Hamilton stood.

The six-acre event and recreation space has evolved into a central gathering location. According to the Planning Association, Marcum Park, which is the downtown’s first large park, has stimulated investment in Hamilton’s urban core. Additionally, the park’s trails have led to the development of walking organizations.

Facts about the park, as highlighted by the Association, included that Marcum Park came into being as a result of a donation from Sarah and Joe Marcum of $3.9m. Another noteworthy fact is that 11 of the 12 concerts held at RiversEdge were free during the 2018 summer season.

Many communities find poster printing services the most economical way to promote events such as concerts.

Marcum Park prompted the 102-unit Marcum Apartment project at a cost of $15m within a year of its opening. The project includes five first floor retail spaces.

Several other Greater Cincinnati locations were highlighted: Hyde Park, the Village of Mariemont, and the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood in Cincinnati.
