Hamiltons Black Street bridge to be featured on big screen

The bridge spanning the Great Miami River that connects the east side of Hamilton to the west side was closed last Sunday for the shooting of a key scene in a movie titled ‘Onda The Short Film’.

In order for the bridge scene to be filmed, city officials granted permission for its closure for a large part of the day. The scene involves a large boulder being balanced on the ledge of a bridge. In addition to the aesthetically pleasing bridge, the equally photogenic river views from the bridge were filmed as well.

John Swanson, director of the short-film drama, declined to go into too many details about the plot but according to Swanson, the film will highlight “a social issue” of interest to him.

The location production is set in 2011 and deals with the Recession and a desperate man who makes his way to a bridge, situated high above a river. There, he meets someone who prompts him to reevaluate his situation.

Plans are for the movie to premiere this fall. A fundraising campaign coinciding with the movie’s premier will be held to raise money to take the movie around the world to independent film festivals. One way of promoting a locally filmed movie is via the use of a poster printing service.
