Puzzling development awaits in Fairfield

Jigsaw puzzles, word search puzzles, and crossword puzzles certainly keep people entertained, and now they can enjoy their pastime with a special event in Fairfield.

The North Fairfield Library will be the venue to celebrate this year's National Puzzle Day. Jodi Jill began the them day in 2002, as a way to share her love of puzzles. Jill was a professional quiz maker who developed puzzles for syndicated newspapers. She also created lesson plans for use in the classroom to celebrate National Puzzle Day specifically, and the event has become more popular as time has gone on.

Puzzles of all kinds, whether they are Sudoku, brainteasers, trivia, word searches, or others, are important because they allow puzzle-solvers to use their minds. Studies have shown that people use both sides of their brains when they put a jigsaw puzzle together, and working a puzzle each day improves problem-solving skills, cognitive function, and memory.

Language-based puzzles, such as crosswords and word searches, can help increase language and vocabulary skills, while Sudoku can help improve mathematical skills.

National Puzzle Day is celebrated every year on January 29, and the local event runs from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the library, which is on East Main Street in North Fairfield. Poster printing can be used to make extremely creative advertisements for events like this.
