Fairfield residents get down and dirty

Fairfield Township held its eighth annual Mud Mania recently, to the delight of kids of all ages, who spent the day getting filthy.

The event was held in Rentschler Forest MetroPark in Hamilton, about four miles from Fairfield. This is the first time Mud Mania has included volleyball and a selfie picture booth where participants could stream their muddy photos to Facebook.

Approximately 1,000 people take part every year, according to Butler County MetroParks’ event coordinator, Allison Wagner. She also described the craft corner as a spot full of muddy crafts where children can get as dirty as they like.

Mud Mania begins on a hilltop, from which parents and children can ride down a water slide that dumps them out into a mud pit. After that, event attendees can work their way across obstacles such as ropes and climb walls, and crawl through tubes of plastic. Many good-natured mud fights broke out, with people throwing handfuls of mud at each other. A Little Mudders area was also provided for small children.

At the end of the day, filthy Mud Mania participants were hosed down by Fairfield Township Fire Department members, making it easier for them to clean up later.

Mud Mania organizers could work with a poster printing company, using photos from this year’s event to create Posters for next year’s fun.
