Fairfield announces schedule for leaf collection

As falling leaves start presenting problems, Fairfield is getting ready to collect them.

The city recently published the schedule it will follow in collecting residents' leaves, and has some tips to help both residents and the employees collecting the leaves. The city is anticipating having to deal with a lot of leaves, which means crews may be behind schedule at times.

Residents are asked please not to put leaves in the streets, where they can block drains and sewers, leading to flooding. Residents are also asked to rake the leaves into piles or rows either between the sidewalk and the curb; in areas where there are no curbs or sidewalks, residents can place the leaves next to the street.

Also, please don't park cars near the leaf piles during the hours 7.00 am until 8.00 pm. If residents have only a few leaves, they're asked to bag them and put them out with the trash. Finally, they are asked not to place brush, limbs, sticks, or clippings in the leaf piles.

The scheduled pickups for streets lying west of Pleasant Avenue are November 4-8; November 25-29; and December 16-20. Streets between Winton Road and Pleasant Avenue are scheduled for November 11-15; beginning December 2; and December 23-27. Finally, streets to the east of Winton Road will have leaves collected November 18-22; December 9-13; and December 30-January 3.

The collection, which is free, will start November 4. Flyer printing can be used to provide information for events like this.
