Work on Dublin preschool set to commence

The building formerly used as district offices for Dublin City Schools will be transformed into a preschool, and work should begin soon.

The Dublin Board of Education first needs to approve what is known as a “guaranteed maximum price”, or GMP, for some of the work. A GMP is an agreement, based on the scope of a project, on the cost of some portion of the work. Unless unexpected conditions arise, or the scope of the project changes, any amount over the sum agreed upon would be paid by the construction company.

Corna Kokosing Construction Company, and Elford, Incorporated, submitted proposals. The district has worked with both firms before, and this time picked Elford for the project, approving a GMP in the amount of $4,554,564, for construction and build-out. There will be a second GMP voted on later, covering work on the site and the playground. The project includes building both a new middle school and the preschool at the same time. Print shops can create informative materials for residents in cases like this.

Dublin superintendent Todd Hoadley said that putting all the preschool programs in the district in one space will have several benefits. Staff will no longer have to spend valuable time driving to various elementary schools; also, pulling preschool students out of the district's elementary schools will give current elementary school students more room, so building another elementary school will not be an immediate concern.
