Voting on promotional spending for golf tournament not yet within putting distance

Franklin county commissioners have decided to delay voting on a $150,000 spending approval to promote and host the 2013 Presidents Cup golf tourney (PGA) until some issues are looked into with more detail.

At a meeting on Monday, September 10, a few legal questions were brought to the attention of the commissioners concerning the language and implications of some wording used throughout the contract. The commissioners hope to look into and resolve these concerns quickly, so that they may vote on the approval of spending for the PGA within a week.

The PGA Tour will be held in Dublin in October 2013 at Muirfield Village Golf Club. A contract has been signed stating that it will provide marketing for the event on the national and international levels. In addition, the PGA stated within the contract that a minimum of $250,000 would be distributed to various charities within Franklin County. Commissioner Marilyn Brown stated in a message:

“I am very happy that our residents will receive over $250,000 from the PGA (Tour) going to local charities for our $150,000 investment.”

An estimated 150,000 tourists are expected to visit the city during the PGA Tour, bringing in millions of dollars in tourist spending. Dublin Print companies can expect to stay busy during this period, as well as months before the event. Various Forms of marketing will be used not only in promotion of the PGA Tour itself, but by local businesses as well. Banner printing, flyer printing, and poster printing are just a few of the ways area companies are likely to advertise special promotions and sales at this time.
