St. Patrick's Day is coming, and Dublin residents are getting set to celebrate in style, with a parade and other activities.
The main event is the annual St. Patrick's Day parade, which is expected to comprise approximately 110 units, including bands, floats, leprechauns, and horses. Dublin officials expect 20,000 people to view the procession.
Dublin's events administrator, Mary Jo DiSalvo, helped organize the parade and is full of tips on how best to enjoy the day. She suggests spectators bring their own folding chairs, keep an eye on the weather forecast, and dress appropriately, though she also notes nobody has ever stayed home because it rained. She also says people often set up hours before the start time, and everyone seems to have a favorite spot.
Other events include a pancake breakfast, the Inflation Celebration where visitors can watch the balloon being readied for the parade, and a post-parade celebration called the Blarney Bash, with food, entertainment and music.
The parade steps off this Saturday, March 14 at 11:00 am, from Metro Center, located on Frantz Road. The breakfast is a Dublin Lions Club event and starts at the Sells Middle School at 7:00 am, while the Inflation Celebration is set for 9:00 am at Graeter's parking lot.
Event organizers could work with a banner printing company to create a huge banner to hang over the parade route.
