An upcoming conference in Dublin will bring technical services librarians together to discuss best practices and issues in their industry.
The Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians (OVGTSL) Conference 2024 is the latest in a series of meetings that started in 1924. For the last 99 years, librarians from Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio have gotten together to discuss the way standards are changing in their profession, and what the changes mean for regional, local, and national practices.
Organizers have requested proposals for presentations focused on practices and workflows currently in use at libraries, but are also asking participants to consider making presentations about technical services from a historic viewpoint. Suggested topics for consideration include rare collections and primary resources, open access, DEI, emerging trends in access and discovery, and many others.
The conference this year is a hybrid event. The presentations will be made in person at The Conference Center, while a virtual option is also available. Sessions will run concurrently, and attendees will pick one of three to attend. All the talks will be recorded and then made available to both virtual and in-person attendees.
The centennial meeting of OVGTSL will be held at The Conference Center at OCLC in Dublin, on May 22, 23, and 24. An opening reception will take place at the Thompson Library at The Ohio State University in Columbus. Organizers of events like this will often work with a local printer, who will use flyer printing to create a handout listing the schedule of events.
