Tech company expanding in Dublin

LSP Technologies, a laser peening specialist located in Dublin, is remaining in the city but moving to a larger facility that offers 65,000 square feet of space for future growth.

The company will still serve customers during the move, which it anticipates completing early in 2019. The relocation is a major expansion for the company, and will enable it to continue to increase its workforce, and to service its customers' larger components. There are more than 50 people employed full-time at LSP, which is over twice as many as worked there in 2017. Included in this number are over 35 designers, technicians, engineers, and technical support staff.

Laser peening, which is also known as laser shock peening, is used to reduce the possibility of metal fatigue, and extend a component's life. In this method, pulses from a laser are directed at the surface of a metal part, in order to enhance its mechanical properties. Companies like this that use complex processes can take advantage of brochure printing to explain their services.

This is particularly important for parts used in aircraft, automobile manufacturing, power generation, and heavy equipment, including drive shafts, gears, and blades in turbine engines. Laser peening can potentially extend the life of a part by a factor of 20, which brings costs down, as well as minimizing downtime and maintenance. The process is also valuable when used on parts that are difficult to access, such as the blades on wind turbines.
