An unusual challenge should keep Dublin foodies happy trying to decide who has the best slider.
The Annual Historic Dublin Slider Challenge is on the way, with eight of the city's best restaurants taking part. The eateries who will be offering up their take on these classic, tiny bites of hamburger goodness are Tucci's, The Avenue, Oscar's, Mezzo, La Chatelaine, J Liu, Harvest, and the Dublin Village Tavern.
Participants may pick up their tickets at Extravagifts, at 24 N. High Street. The guest judges for the event are local lifestyle and food blogger Christina Mollica; former basketball great from OSU, Rick Smith; and Dublin City Council member Christina Alutto.
Sliders are legendary throughout the Midwest, where the White Castle chain of restaurants, one of the nation's oldest, is thought to be the first company to use the term. Their sliders are onion-steamed, and about two inches square. Other restaurants have used the term, which is now common for these tiny hamburgers, but White Castle did trademark the word, spelling it “Slyder,” and used this spelling from 1985 until 2009. Sliders are now served everywhere, and are no longer just small buns and onion-y meat patties; many varieties are available.
The slider challenge takes place Dublin's Historic District on July 13, from 1.00 pm until 4.00 pm. Flyer printing can be used to create handouts for participants in events like this.
