Dublin, Ohio, was surveyed by John Sells and his friend John Shields early in the 1800s, and Shields requested that the city be named after his birthplace in Ireland. His wish was granted, and Dublin today pays homage to its namesake with a St. Patrick's Day parade, and the world's largest 3-day celebration of all things Irish, the Dublin Irish Festival.
