Arizona State University (ASU) coordinates Honor Runs around the country, and one is coming up soon in Dublin.
ASU hosts the runs to support the Pat Tillman Foundation, which in turn runs the Tillman Scholar program. The runs are family-friendly, casual, and fun, and everyone is welcome to join ASU alumni, military personnel, and fans of ASU's Sun Devils on the day.
Pat Tillman was a California native who has been described as a natural leader. He was told he was too small to play football, but he made it onto the ASU team, and then played in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals. The 9/11 attacks inspired him to join the Army, and he lost his life in Afghanistan in 2004, trying to save his comrades after his unit was ambushed.
Although the event is styled as the “Columbus: Tillman Honor Run,” it will take place in Dublin, at the Dublin Community Recreation Center on Post Road. Race day is April 18, and the event runs from 9:00 am until 12:00 noon. Participants who want to receive their T-shirt before the race must register by April 2. Registrants who sign up after that date will have their shirts mailed to them after the race.
