Multiple improvements slated for Dublin in 2015

Dublin residents can look forward to a number of projects in 2015 that will improve life in the community.

The city will focus on expanding its fiber optic network, as well as improving the infrastructure of the city's roadways.

Dana McDaniel, who will take over as city manager on January 31, said expanding the underground fiber optic network, which currently is at 100 gigabits, will attract new businesses to the city and allow established ones to remain competitive. There are about 125 miles of fiber optics running through a conduit in central Ohio, with about 25 miles located in the commercial district of Dublin.

Improving the fiber optic network will give small and medium-sized businesses greater bandwidth speed, as well as entree to local data centers. It will also increase the city's ability to connect to universities and colleges, and the National Science Foundation.

Two improvements to the road infrastructure should kick off in March, 2015 – work on the U.S. Route 33/I-270 interchange; and work on the Riverside Drive/Route 161 roundabout. The interchange improvement will increase the value of the Route 33 corridor, and bring approximately 46,000 new jobs to the area, while the roundabout will improve safety at the intersection.

Dublin officials might consider working with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for residents, informing them of route delays and suggesting detours.
