London residents Dave and LaDonna Thomas have chosen to honor Mr. Thomas's parents by donating land to help Dublin finish the Riverside Crossing Park. The total donation was 1.278 acres.
Dave Thomas's parents were Berniece and John Thomas, whose work in Dublin, both as volunteers and in a professional capacity, showed their love of the city. John Thomas was the owner of Thomas Motor Sales, and also served as a trustee of Perry Township, a deputy police officer, and a volunteer firefighter. Berniece Thomas was a teacher in the Dublin schools.
Riverside Crossing Park comprises about 36 acres, and work started on it earlier in 2017. The project's cost is estimated at approximately $19m, and will take five years. The donated land is small in comparison to the park's total acreage, but it's important to the overall effort, according to Matt Earman, the director of Dublin's Parks & Recreation Department. That acre allowed the city to connect the new park with another one, along the Scioto River.
Riverside Crossing Park is part of the Bridge Street District project, a mixed-use development that includes residential, office, and commercial properties next to Riverside Drive. Earman said he expects the new park to host private and public events in future.
Projects like this can benefit if developers create festive Banners, which can be displayed outside, to enhance the opening of the park.
