Swensons, the popular chain of drive-ins based in Akron, is getting set for the official opening of its first location in central Ohio. The restaurant started serving its classic burgers several days ago at its soft opening.
The Dublin location is the 11th in the chain, which started in business in 1934, and a second central-Ohio shop could open close to Polaris Fashion Place before the end of 2018. The company is exploring other potential locations in central Ohio, but has not been specific about any of them.
Swensons’ signature dish is the hamburger it calls the Galley Boy. This creation has two beef patties, two different sauces (barbecue and tartar), and a cheese slice, all on a charred bun with an olive on top. Swensons’ menu in general harks back to an earlier time, with sloppy Joes, grilled chicken, fried bologna, BLTs, and an assortment of burgers available.
Restaurant Consultants Inc.’s president, Bob Welcher, says he believes this nod to the past will serve Swensons well, adding that at the moment, a nostalgic feeling is present, and Swensons aligns with that. When companies open new locations like this, local managers could distribute Promotional Products, both to thank early customers for coming and to build brand awareness.
The official opening of the new Swensons, which is at 7490 Sawmill Road, is this Friday, November 9.
