The last phase of Emerald Parkway is now open, which means the area could go through some changes.
The parkway has opened up land in the area of Bright Road, and Dublin is working to update its community plan for that area of the city.
Vince Papsidero, the city's planning director, said Dublin has been meeting with land owners and residents in the area to discuss the issue. The current plan, which is to be used as a guideline for development in the future, has some of the land saved for office spaces, with current residential property designated as “suburban residential”.
The land under discussion is north of I-270, south of Bright Road, near Sawmill Road. Some land is also earmarked for use as park space, and an area on the northeast corner of Emerald Parkway and Riverside Drive is designated for office use.
The plan last underwent a major update in 2007, but there have been many changes to the area since then, including improvements to Hard Road and Sawmill Road, and the parkway completion. The Bridge Street District development has also made an impact, and Bridge Park, a mixed-use development, is now under construction.
Dublin has hosted two public meetings thus far, where residents can express their opinions on what the area should be used for in future. The city could work with a flyer printing company on a mailer for residents to ask for further feedback.
