Dublin to get new branch library

Although no one knows where it will be yet, Dublin residents have learned that the city will be getting a new branch library.

According to a news item dated May 4, members of the Dublin City Council got a few details about the new building recently, even if the location remains unknown.

The library is the Dublin branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library system, and will probably be built somewhere in the Bridge Street District. Alison Circle, spokeswoman for the library system, said the focus of the new building will be on a space that allows community gatherings. To that end, the library will have five or six meeting rooms, including one that can hold up to 200 people.

Overall, the library will more than double in size, from its current 20,147 square feet to more than 42,000 square feet. There will be a focus on technology, so that patrons can use personal devices to access the library’s services.

Other plans include 14 study rooms, a coffee bar, expanded areas for children and teens, and a quiet room for reading that features a fireplace. A Homework Help Center, which has proven extremely popular, will be included in the design.

Library officials might work with brochure printers to create a mailer for Dublin residents, including an artist's drawing of the new building, and listing its amenities.
