Dublin rec center to be renovated

Dublin is planning significant work to its Community Recreation Center next year, focusing on the center's pools, roof, gym, and the program and membership software.

Traditionally, the center has shut down for one week for maintenance, according to the city's director of recreation services, Tracey Gee. This will be the first time the center has closed for an extended period of time, Gee says, noting that by doing so, the city is trying to combine the various projects to get “the biggest bang for the buck”.

The exact dates of the closures are not known yet, but it is thought they will take place next summer, and close the facility for one or two months. Gee said the city plans to work with contractors on confirming the schedules of the shutdown, but emphasized the center needs to be renovated if it is to continue to operate. The center opened its first phase in 1996, with areas for active sports such as the gym and pool. The north side, including offices and classrooms, opened in 2000, and no major renovations have been carried out since.

This would be a great opportunity for the city to work with a newsletter printing company on a detailed letter for residents, explaining the scope of the work, the history of the center that makes it necessary, and the dates of the closures.
