Dublin puts official tree lighting on schedule

Dublin will kick off the holiday season with its annual tree lighting.

The City of Dublin Tree Lighting Event, which takes place annually, is the city's official start to the holiday season. The free evening is for people of all ages, and takes place at Coffman Park on Emerald Parkway.

Planned seasonal activities will give kids a chance to write their letters to Santa, while older people will be able to make ornaments. Entertainers including stilt walkers and ice sculptors will also be on hand, as will costumed characters.

Rumor has it that Santa will be stabling his reindeer in the Coffman Barn at the Reindeer Rest Stop. He and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to arrive via horse-drawn sleigh to help with the lighting of the tree, and rumors abound that the Jolly Old Elf will be available for photos after the ceremony.

A trackless train has been added to the list of things to do this year. It will operate in the parking lot of City Hall. Also on the list of activities is a visit to the Fletcher Coffman House, where a “Victorian Christmas” will be showcased, thanks to the Dublin Historical Society. A decorated sleigh will be located in the barn.

The activities will take place from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on December 5 at Coffman Park, with the Tree Lighting itself set for 6:40 pm. Banner printing is a great source for festive decorations for events like this.
