Dublin hospital begins renovations

Officials with the OhioHealth Dublin Methodist Hospital recently announced that work has begun on a $20m renovation and expansion project that will refurbish 10,000 square feet and add another 32,000 square feet.

Included in the expansion plans are eight postpartum beds, as well as one labor and delivery room. These facilities will be located on the second floor, and bring the total of beds for postpartum recovery to 27, and the number of delivery rooms to 10.

A new observation unit with a 15-bed capacity will be attached to the Emergency Room. Patients in this space will be expected to stay 24 hours or less, as doctors determine whether or not to admit them to the hospital.

The renovations are being planned so the hospital will have the ability to expand its operating rooms in future, if the need arises. Improvements like this can result in some confusion as to the location of new services, so officials can use brochure printing to create helpful guides for visitors to such facilities.

Dublin Methodist’s president, Steve Bunyard, said hospital officials saw the facility was nearly at capacity in the obstetrics services it provides, with more than 2,500 babies being delivered there in 2017. They realized the hospital could not meet the community’s needs at its current capacity, and this realization was the driving force for the project.
