Dublin gets on the move for a cure

An upcoming event will help to raise funds to support research into facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD).

The 2024 Columbus Walk & Roll to Cure FSHD is open to everyone, and those who are interested are welcome and encouraged to invite everyone they know—congregation, classmates, co-workers, neighbors, club members, friends, and family—to join them.

Once someone registers, they will be given a participant’s page as well as access to a cutting-edge fundraising center. This will enable people to share their stories via email and on social media, to increase the number of people working toward a cure.

The FSHD Society is the organizer of the event, which is the Society’s largest annual fundraiser. The Walk & Roll is also the only event in North America dedicated solely to raising money for research into the condition, finding a cure, and engaging the support of the community.

FSHD is a genetic disorder affecting the muscles, with involvement of the upper arms, shoulder blades, and face usually happening first. Weakness may also spread to the muscles of the abdomen, back, upper legs, and hips, which may mean the person has to use a wheelchair, hence the “roll” in the event title. There is no known cure, but most people with FSHD live a normal lifespan.

The Walk & Roll event is Saturday, September 14, at 10.00 am at the Coffmann Park Pavilion in Dublin. Organizers of outdoor events like this will often ask printers to use banner printing to create decorations.
