Dublin concerts start soon

For the 35th year, Dublin residents and visitors will be able to enjoy free concerts along the river when the Sundays at Scioto series resumes.

The Dublin Arts Council sponsors the concerts, and according to David Guion, the council's executive director, there will be five new bands playing this year. Guion says that a vital component of the concert series' success is bringing in new groups.

The five new-to-Dublin groups are the McCartney Project, a tribute band for Paul McCartney; the Buzzard Kings, who play vintage rock; the Gothard Sisters, a Celtic folk-pop group; ARKFOO and Kirstie Kraus, who serve up pop/country tunes; and the Labra Brothers, who play Latin rock. Returning performers include rockers Popgun, blues player Hadden Sayers, and the HooDoo Soul Band. Concerts usually draw from 600 to 1,500 audience members.

When they perform, the Gothard Sisters will be joined by students from the Richens/Timm Academy of Irish Dance. Guion says this event might be considered a way to start getting ready for the Irish Festival, one of Dublin's biggest events.

Sundays at Scioto begins this Sunday, June 10, and runs through July 29, with performances from 7:00 pm until 8:30 pm in Scioto Park's amphitheater.

Events like this can be even more pleasant if organizers work with a flyer printing company to create handouts and information about the bands.
