Ribbon cutting at renovated bank building

David Mann, the vice mayor of Cincinnati, attended an opening event in the Madisonville neighborhood of the city on April 28.

The ceremony marked the end of renovations to the historic Fifth Third Bank, which is located on the corner of Whetsel Avenue and Madison Road. The remodel, which cost about $644,000, repurposed the building, which is 200 years old, into a mixed-use project, with a street level space of about 2,800 square feet that will be used as a restaurant. It also included a pair of two-bedroom units above.

Mann said that the remodeling is more important than just saving one building, adding that renovating the site will help preserve the historic nature of the Madisonville business area. He also believes it will serve to spur continued development in the neighborhood, and will help Madisonville reach its potential as a thriving area. He further revealed that when he spoke to a group of visitors at City Hall, he included Madisonville in the list of Cincinnati areas that he feels are “hot” and ready for further development.

Finally, he said Cincinnati Mayor John Cranley sent his regards to those attending the ceremony, and that both he and the Mayor hope to be able to reveal a new project for Madisonville very soon.

City officials might create a brochure about the renovation and use it to market Cincinnati to companies considering relocating there.
