Jam band with Bluegrass accents set to rock Cincinnati

A jam band known for its Bluegrass sounds with other genres mixed in will perform in Cincinnati.

In 1993, the String Cheese Incident was created in Crested Butte, Colorado, with bassist Keith Moseley, guitarist Bill Nershi, drummer Michael Travis, and guitarist and violinist Michael Kang as founders. They called themselves the Blue String Cheese Band, because they thought of themselves as a Bluegrass outfit that played “cheesy covers” as well.

They changed their name and relocated to Boulder to concentrate on a musical career. They also decided to add a keyboardist to expand beyond their strings, and Kyle Hollingsworth came aboard to handle accordion, Rhodes (electric piano), organ, and piano. Jason Hann has been with the group since 2004 as auxiliary percussion.

This sizeable group incorporates bits of psychedelia, reggae, progressive rock, Latin, jazz, funk, country, calypso, electronica, and rock into their music. All the band members write their material, and they all sing.

Thus far, they have released 11 albums, beginning in 1997 with “Born on the Wrong Planet,” and dropped their most recent effort, “Lend Me a Hand” in 2023. Their fourth studio album, “Untying the Not,” included trance and electronic music elements, adding more aspects to their music. A concert review says:

“The band’s two sets were inspired, energetic and just plain ol’ fun.”

The String Cheese Incident will appear at the Taft Theatre on November 7. Organizers of events like this can help boost attendance by using poster printing to devise advertising for them.
