Musical featuring music of Queen rocks Cincinnati

A show that ran for years in London’s West End will be in Cincinnati for a limited engagement soon.

“We Will Rock You” is a jukebox musical featuring the music of Queen. The story is set in a dismal future where algorithms control music and individuality is a crime. Two young revolutionaries struggle against this dystopian background to save rock ‘n’ roll. The show features over 20 of Queen’s biggest hits including “We Are the Champions,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and the title song, the anthemic “We Will Rock You.”

The show is timely considering the struggles artists are facing now, including severe budget cuts in some countries, as well as a general devaluating of artistic endeavors.

The original production ran for more than 12 years in the West End and made history when it became Dominion Theatre’s longest-running production ever. It has been revived numerous times and traveled to 28 countries, where over 16 million people worldwide have seen it.

The production scheduled at Memorial Hall will be similar to their presentations of “Ring of Fire” and “Tommy,” since it will not be fully staged. However, it will include a seven-piece band on stage, approximately 20 costumed actors and dancers, as well as lighting, scene, and production design elements.

“We Will Rock You” opens at Memorial Hall on August 22 and will run through August 29. Posters, which show organizers can find at Print shops, are a traditional way to advertise events like this.
