Lea Salonga, a Filipina artist, first came to international notice when she originated the role of Kim in “Miss Saigon,” in the West End. In 1991, two years later, she reprised the character on Broadway. Further stage successes include “Les Misérables” and “Flower Drum Song.”
She sang as Princess Jasmine in “Aladdin” (1992), and as Fa Mulan in “Mulan” and “Mulan II.” Her television appearances include “Pretty Little Liars,” and “That’s Entertainment.”
She began her recording career when she was ten and released “Small Voice,” an album that was certified Gold. Atlantic Records signed her and dropped the Platinum-rated “Lea Salonga” in 1993. She has released 13 albums; the latest is 2024’s “Sounding Joy.”
She has performed in some of the world’s most important venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Lincoln Center. She has won a Tony, a Laurence Olivier Award, been nominated for two Grammys, and will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the first full-blooded Filipina to win this honor.
