Port Authority plans to buy industrial parcel

As part of its plan to redevelop underutilized property that could accommodate manufacturing concerns, the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority is planning to buy property in Amberley Village.

The parcel comprises 54 acres, and is the first purchase out of a total of 500 acres.

The agency voted to designate $8.5m to purchase property located at 2100 Section Road. The site is currently occupied by an industrial building that housed Gibson Greetings, a greeting card company, from 1956 to 2006.

At present, Saturday Knight Ltd., a distributor of bath products, is in the building. However, it plans to move soon, relocating to the Spring Grove Village area of Cincinnati, leaving the building vacant.

Saturday Knight's decision gave the Port Authority the chance to buy the property. According to CEO and president of the port, Laura Brunner, the agency had been working on the acquisition since October. Once the port acquires the property, it will redevelop the land and offer it as a “shovel-ready” parcel to companies and consultants who select sites for development.

Estimates by the port indicate the property could hold a manufacturing building as large as 660,000 square feet. The businesses housed there could employ as many as 990 people. The port would sell the property once the redevelopment was finished.

Port officials might consider creating Brochures detailing their plans, and make them available to area developers.
