New nighttime venue prepares for grand opening

Societe, a new nightclub that is taking over the Mainstay Rock Bar space, had its soft opening New Year's Eve, and will celebrate its grand opening sometime this month.

Located at 301 West Fifth Street in Cincinnati, Societe will only be open on weekends until the main opening date.

Jason Appleton, who is the club's co-owner, said he wanted to open a club based on his prior experience in the industry. He was a bouncer at the Spy Club, and wanted to bring it back. That establishment was the inspiration for Societe.

Appleton warned patrons that the new club would not be completely ready in time for the New Year's Eve opening. He went on to say that the finishing touches will feature lots of red, including $10,000 worth of draperies, as well as statues and reliefs inspired by ancient Rome. Appleton described it as an ideal spot for those interested in Roman culture.

Appleton also says his aim in opening the new club is to give people a place where they know they are going to have fun. He will focus on service, adding that he and his wife have found themselves bored at many bars they have tried, as well as disappointed in the treatment they have received.

Those involved in opening new clubs often work with a flyer printing company to create handouts, with coupons, for the grand opening.
