The Streetside Brewery, located in Columbia Tusculum, one of Cincinnati's oldest neighborhoods, is now open, according to an article on Cincinati.com.
Kathie and Brian Hickey and their son Garrett have been planning the enterprise for over two years. They took over the site that once housed the East End Café, which featured live music until 2010, when it suffered heavy fire damage. They built the new brewery, which comprises 5,000 square feet, on the property.
The new venue features a taproom comprising 2,000 square feet, with inside seating for 68 and room for 25 additional patrons outside. The room has a concrete bar, televisions, tables made of reclaimed redwood, and garage doors that can be opened to the outside, giving the place a feel Kathie calls “comfy industrial.”
The brewery can produce about 3,000 barrels annually, but the first year the Hickeys expect to produce about 800. At first, Streetside plans to serve six of its brews, including an IPA, pale ale, and award-winning Berliner Weisse with raspberry.
Streetside's lead brewer, Luke Shropshire, says the bar is trying to “push the envelope” with its beers because there is a great deal of competition, and introduce new brews to the city.
