New brewery coming to Cincinnati

A brand new brewery and restaurant is aiming to be open soon, and plans an eclectic menu to cater to everyone's tastes.

Dead Low Brewing is opening on Kellogg Avenue in Cincinnati's California neighborhood. The establishment will comprise a full-service restaurant, taproom, brewery, and outdoor beer garden. Christine Hall and Paul Ganim, brother and sister, founded Dead Low along with Kyle Havens, a friend. They plan to open the brewery with four ciders and nine brews available, and expand into various other styles, including dark beers.

Scott Berens is the chef, and is offering a selection he hopes will have something for everyone who visits the brewery. The menu includes the classic fried green tomatoes; blue mussels braised with leeks and a beer brewed by Dead Low; kabobs; and Dread Lo Jerk Chicken. Promotional Products are often distributed when new businesses like this open, to help increase brand recognition.

The name of the brewery comes from terms used by riverboats, and pays homage to the city's history with the river. ‘Dead low’ is the minimum amount of water necessary for a boat to float. A canoe may need only eight inches, while the steamboats that once called at Cincinnati had a dead low of two fathoms, or 12 feet. When a steamboat had its dead low, a linesman would call “Mark Twain,” the term writer Samuel Clemens took for his pen name.

Dead Low should be open by the end of the month.
