Alex Bugnon is from Caux, Switzerland, only four miles from Montreux, famous for the annual Jazz Festival. Marion Meadows was born in West Virginia but raised in Connecticut. However, the two of them speak a common language – jazz.
Bugnon is the nephew of Donald Byrd, who influenced Herbie Hancock’s early career. Bugnon himself developed a friendship with Hancock, which helped steer him to a career in music.
Bugnon studied at the Paris Conservatory before moving to Boston to begin his studies at the Berklee school Music. Bugnon was exposed to various musical genres, from funk and jazz to gospel and R&B, all of which led him to develop a sound of his own. He toured with R&B greats like Glenn Jones and Melba Moore.
Meadows began his career in music when he was nine, studying the classics and playing clarinet. In high school, he began playing tenor sax, then soprano sax. Like Bugnon, he was exposed to a variety of genres, especially jazz as played by greats like Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane. He studied jazz at Rippowam High School, then, like Bugnon, went to Berklee College of Music.
